Selling a UAE mobile number is not complicated. Pricing it is. Most sellers arrive with a number they believe is exceptional and a figure in mind that the market does not support — and then wait months for an enquiry that never comes.
This guide uses MobileNumber.ae's own listing data to show what UAE numbers are actually offered for, how rare your pattern really is, and what separates a listing that gets attention from one that sits. Every figure below is drawn from active private-seller listings and excludes the house account, whose 30,000+ listings would otherwise distort every average.
What UAE mobile numbers are actually listed for
Two thirds of private UAE number listings ask under AED 500. Fewer than one in fifty asks more than AED 5,000.

These are asking prices, not sale prices. They tell you what you are competing against on the shelf, which is the practical question when you set your own figure. If your number sits in the top band, it needs a reason that a buyer can see in one glance.
What your prefix is worth — and what it is not
Among private sellers the median asking price is AED 325 for 050 and AED 400 for both 054 and 056. The large "050 premium" that circulates online is not visible in current private supply.

Read the bottom three rows with care. The 052, 055 and 058 samples contain 35 to 52 listings each. A handful of high-priced numbers moves those medians enormously, so they describe who happens to be listing today — not a market rate. The 050, 054 and 056 figures rest on thousands of listings and are far more stable.
Prefixes are allocated to carriers, and a number keeps its prefix when it moves between carriers through portability. So the prefix tells a buyer where the number started, not who serves it now. If you want the full allocation picture, see the UAE prefix lookup.
How rare is your pattern, really?
Three identical digits in a row appear in 52.8% of private listings. Five in a row appear in 0.2%. Scarcity, not repetition, is what makes a pattern valuable.
Sellers routinely overvalue a triple. The table below counts how often each pattern appears in the 10,600 active private listings whose number is all digits:

The practical reading: if your number's only distinguishing feature is a triple, you are competing with more than five thousand other listings that have one too. Price accordingly. If you hold five in a row, an ascending run or a clean 786, you are in a group of a few dozen — and that is worth stating plainly in your listing.
Step by step: how to list your number
Step 1 — Check what it is worth

Step 2 — Create your account and enter the details
Pick your prefix, enter the seven remaining digits, then set carrier, contract status and type. Accuracy here decides whether your listing survives the buyer's first question.
Step 3 — Pay the AED 29 listing fee
One flat fee, no commission on the sale. The listing stays live until it sells or you remove it.
Step 4 — Handle enquiries
Buyers contact you through the platform. Answer the contract and account-state questions honestly and early; a buyer who discovers a 24-month commitment at the counter walks away.
Step 5 — Complete the transfer
Ownership changes at the carrier store with both parties present and original Emirates IDs. Payment settles directly between buyer and seller once the operator confirms the change of ownership — MobileNumber.ae never holds funds.
The three fields most sellers leave incomplete
A listing competes on completeness as much as on the number itself. Three fields decide it, and one of them is blank on nearly a third of private listings.
1. Contract status — blank on 30% of listings
Of 10,612 active private listings, 3,151 leave the commitment field empty. Of those that fill it in, 5,527 declare a 12-month commitment and 1,664 a 24-month one; only 265 say "no commitment". A blank field reads as something to hide. If your number is committed, say so — and see selling a number that is still under contract for how the settlement works.
2. Type — postpaid is the norm
10,364 private listings are postpaid against 245 prepaid. Buyers assume postpaid; if yours is prepaid, saying so upfront avoids a wasted trip.
3. A price
Eight active private listings carry no price at all. A listing without a figure asks the buyer to do the work of guessing, and most will not.
What makes a number easier to sell
- Short to say out loud. A number a person can repeat after hearing it once is worth more than a longer pattern that looks clever written down.
- One clear feature. A single strong pattern beats three weak ones competing for attention.
- An honest, complete listing. Contract, type and account state stated upfront.
- A price inside the band your pattern actually occupies — see the tables above.
- Clean account state. No outstanding balance, nothing pending at the carrier.
- Accounts unlinked in advance so the handover is not blocked by your own WhatsApp or banking OTPs.
- Responsiveness. Enquiries go cold quickly.
Selling several numbers

Three worked examples
The tables above only help if you can apply them to your own number. Three cases, using the same data:
Example A — 054 with one triple
A 054 number containing a single run of three identical digits and nothing else distinctive. The prefix median is AED 400, and 52.8% of listings also contain a triple, so the pattern adds little separation. A realistic asking price sits in the AED 400–900 band, where roughly 88% of private supply already lives. Pricing this at AED 5,000 puts it against the 1.0% band, next to numbers with far stronger patterns — it will simply sit.
Example B — 050 ending in five identical digits
Five in a row appears in 19 of 10,600 listings. That is genuine scarcity, and the 050 prefix carries the strongest reputation of the six. Here the prefix median of AED 325 is irrelevant — you are not competing with the median, you are competing with a few dozen listings. The AED 5,000–20,000 band (111 listings) or above is defensible, provided the account is clean and the contract settled.
Example C — 052 with an ascending run
An ascending run of four appears in 27 listings. But note the sample warning: the 052 median of AED 19,250 rests on 48 listings and is moved by a handful of very high asks. Do not read it as a market rate. Price on the pattern's scarcity and on comparable live listings rather than on that median.
What the carrier will ask for
Ownership transfer is a carrier procedure governed by the TDRA's registration rules, and the paperwork is the part sellers underestimate.
The TDRA's Regulatory Policy — Registration Requirements for Mobile Consumers sets out who may hold a registered number. For someone who is neither a UAE nor a GCC national, the acceptable identification is a valid UAE national ID, or a valid foreign passport together with a valid UAE visa or residence. The authority's consumer guidance describes the standard transfer as both parties attending in person with their original Emirates IDs, and the policy additionally requires that the licensee's own rules for transferring a subscription are satisfied (Art. 11.1.5) — which is why carriers can impose conditions of their own on top of the regulation.
- Both parties present at the carrier store, with original documents — copies are not accepted.
- Valid identification for the incoming owner, in date. An expired ID stops the transfer.
- The account settled — outstanding balances and unfinished commitments block the change.
- The carrier's own transfer form and fee, which differ per operator and change over time. Confirm both at the store before you agree a date with your buyer.
Registration is also not open-ended for everyone: where the holder is not a UAE or GCC national, the registration expires with the visa, residence or passport — whichever comes first. That matters if your buyer is not a resident, and it is covered in buying a UAE number from abroad.

Yes, but the commitment has to be settled or transferred before the carrier will move ownership. Just over half of active private listings declare a 12-month commitment and 16% a 24-month one. Say so in the listing — buyers discover it at the counter anyway.
Do I need to be in the UAE to sell my number?
Both parties normally attend the carrier store together with original Emirates IDs. If you cannot attend, a power of attorney is the usual route, subject to the carrier's own rules.
Which carriers allow ownership transfer?
Etisalat (e&), du and Virgin Mobile all operate ownership-transfer procedures. Requirements and fees are set by each carrier and change from time to time — confirm at the store before you agree a date.
How long does it take to sell?
There is no honest answer to this from our own data: only 9 listings in the entire database currently carry a sold status, which is far too few to derive a timeline. Anyone quoting an average selling time for UAE numbers is guessing.
Should I list prepaid or postpaid?
List what you have. Among active private listings, 10,364 are postpaid and 245 prepaid, so postpaid is the norm and buyers expect it.
What happens to my WhatsApp and bank OTPs when I sell?
Move them first. Unlink the number from WhatsApp, banking, government and delivery accounts before the transfer, or you will lose access to whatever still points at it.
Can I change my asking price later?
Yes. You can edit the price from your listings page at any time without paying again.
Is selling a mobile number legal in the UAE?
Transferring ownership of a registered number between two identified parties is a standard carrier procedure. The transfer must go through the carrier — a private handover of a SIM card does not change who the number is registered to.
Do I pay tax on the sale?
This depends on whether you are selling privately or as a business, and it is not something to take from a marketplace guide. Check your own position with a qualified adviser.
